Sponsorships and other contributions make it possible for the HBA-PA Legal Education Fund to grant a number of scholarships each year. We strive to meet and exceed our fundraising goals year after year to afford more Latino law students opportunities that might not otherwise be available but for a scholarship. Help us continue to support the next generation of Latino lawyers by attending our Annual Scholarship Dinner on October 17, 2019 at The Lucy in Philadelphia, and by becoming an event sponsor. Reach out to LEF Vice President Melissa Martinez (melissa.martinez@saul.com) for sponsorship opportunities.

For me, the Legal Education Fund scholarship opened the door to an opportunity that would have not been possible without it. Because of the LEF scholarship I was able to accept a judicial internship with the U.S. District Court with the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. The funds from the scholarship will help pay for some of the living expenses for the summer. I am very grateful to all the hardworking people that made this scholarship opportunity possible for me.
— Jorge Rivera, Penn State Law, 2018 Scholarship Winner
HBA played an integral role throughout my law school career. In addition to forming connections with HBA members as a law student, I was honored to be the recipient of the HBAPA/Stradley Ronon Scholarship. This Scholarship not only provided financial support, but also included a summer associate position with Stradley. I was fortunate that as a direct result of this Scholarship, I will be joining Stradley as a full-time associate this fall. The following year, I received a scholarship from the HBA Legal Education Fund, which helped relieve financial stress in my final year of law school, allowing me to focus on academics and my role as Editor-in-Chief of Villanova’s Environmental Law Journal. I am very grateful that HBA believed in my abilities and generously helped me begin my legal career.

Being selected as a HBAPA-LEF recipient is such an incredible honor. The HBAPA-LEF scholarship has enabled me to pursue my passion for advocating for unprivileged individuals and families for this upcoming summer. This scholarship and bar association has given me a unique opportunity to make a positive impact in the world, and I am so grateful to the HBAPA for connecting me to great mentors and recognizing my long-term goal of standing up against injustices that plague indigent communities.
— Mario Valdivia, Rutgers Law Camden, 2018 Scholarship Winner
The HBAPA-LEF scholarship was instrumental to assuring that I could complete my final year of law school successfully! As the first in my immediate family to attend and soon graduate from law school, I am grateful for any support that I receive. In addition to providing financial assistance, the HBAPA provides programming throughout the academic year to support students like me. They say it takes it village and I feel extremely fortunate and grateful to have the HBAPA as part of mine.
— Shabel Castro, Penn Law, 2018 Scholarship Winner
The scholarship helped me greatly by reducing the financial stressors in my life, thus allowing me to focus on more meaningful things such as school work and building my professional network. I am now currently working at a prestigious law firm doing the type of work that I love to do. This is undoubtedly owed in part to the HBA & the LEF respectively by affording me the means to achieve such a monumental goal!
